Allergy Patch Testing
If you suffer from constant itching, persistent rashes, swelling, or redness, then you may be experiencing allergic contact dermatitis.
What is Allergy Patch Testing?
People with allergic contact dermatitis will experience redness, itchiness, flaking, bumps, blistering or thickening of the skin when they come into contact with an allergen. The rash and itch may also spread past the site of contact to other parts of the body. We offer patch testing to help identify your irritants and resolve your symptoms. Up to 20 or 30 patches with test substances are secured to the back with hypoallergenic tape, and there are no needles involved. Substances tested may include latex, medications, fragrances, preservatives, hair dyes, metals, and resins. A benefit to allergy patch testing is that it can detect delayed allergic reactions which can take a day or longer to develop. The patches will be worn for 48 hours and then removed when you return to our office. Take care in the interim to not get the patches wet.
